Chapel of St. Peter and Paul Virtual walk

Cerje Pokupsko
During the Croatian Homeland War, the chapel was partially damaged, but thanks to the efforts of the locals and the parish priest, it was restored and blessed on the feast of Saints Peter and Paul in 1996.

This chapel dedicated to the apostolic champions is very similar to the chapel from Lukinic hill, although it is much smaller in size. It was built in 1932 by master carpenters Orecici from Lijevi Stefanki.

The ornamentation is the same as that on the wooden, family houses in Pokupsko, which were also built by the aforementioned craftsmen from Lijevi Stefanki. In the chapel there is a modest altar from the 17th century, which points to the chapel’s older origins. Of the inventory, a particularly valuable painting was created using the oil on canvas technique, which shows Jesus handing over the keys of St. Peter, and to this day it is not known who exactly is the author of that picture. During the Croatian Homeland War, the chapel was partially damaged, but thanks to the efforts of the locals and the parish priest, it was restored and blessed on the feast of Saints Peter and Paul in 1996.
