Kurija is the historical Croatian name for the court of the local nobility and is also an example of autochthonous residential construction of the wealthier people in Turopolje. At the end of the 18th century, there were four noble manors in Donja Lomnica, but only one has survived to this day – the manor of the old noble family Modic-Bedekovic.

This, today’s best-preserved manor house in Turopolje, was built by Petar Modic, a descendant of that noble family, in 1806, as evidenced by an engraved inscription on the main ceiling beam in the lobby.

The one-story house with a rectangular floor plan together with outbuildings from the same period and vegetation represents a rarely preserved example of autochthonous Baroque architecture. The type of construction is respected here as in other manor houses of this type – there are utility rooms on the ground floor, and sleeping and dining rooms on the first floor. Thanks to the continuity of ownership and the care of the family, the manor has been preserved almost entirely in its original state, including the interior, equipment and furniture. We can highlight beautiful heating stoves, stylish furniture, paintings by famous and unknown artists, lamps and porcelain, genealogy of the Modic family.

When you open the big wooden front door, there is even an old coach waiting for you, which stopped taking passengers a long time ago. If you go upstairs, you will cross a floor mosaic of white pebbles and black river shells and enter the living quarters. Former regular visitors to this beautiful estate were the Turopolje noblemen Josipovici, Pogledici, Kusevici or artists and writers Zlatko Balokovic, Franjo Lucic, Josip Andric, August Senoa and Antun Gustav Matos.

If you want to rest and relax in the shade, you will find it in a spacious yard with a park. There is also a “sukačnica”, a room that was used for preparing food in the summer months.
